Howard Taft was President, and there had not been a First or Second World War. The airplane had only been invented five years earlier and cars were still rare. Only one US president had ever been outside of the country.
I don't keep up much with baseball, but this was history in the making. What this means is still unclear. It means something though
This is going to be one of these things that will be hard to understand unless you look back at it.
In a year of upheaval and overturning convention, this might be another event in that chain.
The unfriendly Chinese saying, "May you live in interesting times" seems fairly apt.
Time will tell.
